OPBefore Mass at midnight on Christmas it is appropriate that the Office of Readings be celebrated as a vigil. (GILH,n.215) At the conclusion of this celebration, as is the custom in the liturgical tradition of our Order, the Genealogy according to Matthew (1:1-16) may be sung. If necessary, the chant, that is the solemn proclamation of the Genealogy, may be sung in the manner proper to the gospel by a cantor who is not a deacon.
